Many of the scientists currently studying bees can trace their bee roots to Dr. Michener.
In 2007, the Editorial Committee of the Annual Review of Entomology asked Dr. Michener to
"write an account of my life as a biologist, the reasons for and planning behind what successes I have had, perhaps with the objective of helping young biologists to navigate the ecosystem in which we develop as biologists."
It is a fascinating article in which he meets those goals and gives us a glimpse into the development of a leading entomologist. You can read The Professional Development of an Entomologist here.
